Blooms and Butterflies Color Challenge No. 18

I must admit that I thought this challenge was going to be easy but it wasn’t.  Everything goes with black, right?  I was having a hard time trying to figure out how the colors will blend as I didn’t think Cherry Cobler and Soft Sky goes well together  (at least that’s my opinion).   I made a couple of cards, but in the end I was not happy.  I then went through all of my stamp sets (which isn’t a huge collection) and decided to come up with this design.  Although this is quite simple, I am happy the way this card turned out.

I am not an expert yet on photography and I am really stumped on why the soft sky card stock is looking like Coastal Cabana and Pool Party.

I used Cherry Cobler Embossing Powder (Item No. 122949) to emboss the little heart (the heart is from Create a Cupcake stamp set – Item No. 121982).  I wanted a winter theme for my card and kept the colors to a minimum.  As you all may know by now, I am not a huge fan of busy colors and so I always try to keep my color scheme very simple.

For the sentiment and the Flowers, I used the following Stamp Sets:

Morning Meadow Stamp Set – Item No. 129678

For the Birds Stamp Set– Item No. 126407

White Embossing Powder – Item No. 109132

Basic Rhinestone (Used on the Butterfly and the Flowers) – Item No. 119246

The “snow” was stamped using the sprinkles from the Create A Cupcake Stamp Set (Item No. 121982).

I used Vellum Card Stock to stamp my small Butterfly and embossed it with the white embossing powder, then punched it out with the Bitty Butterfly Punch (Item No. 129406).

I hope you all like this card.

  1. I think your card is very nice. Like many Stampers, or artists in general, we judge ourselves too harshly. Keep in mind that many people who will see your card are not Stampers and they are not going to be looking for every little flaw. The first thing I noticed was a pretty blue and white card, very flowery with a butterfly. When I read you article about meeting the challenge, I felt you were brave (considering I have not entered any of these private challenges in the 24 years I have been stamping), and that you are very resourceful and made do with what you have. Keep up the good work, and keep meeting those challenges. In no time at all you will start seeing vast improvements and you will be much more comfortable.
