Handmade Christmas with Newton’s Nook Designs

Hello my crafty friends.  It’s a double-whammy kind of day for me at Newton’s Nook Designs.  I not only have this blog post, but there is also an exclusive Designer Nook’s newsletter where I featured another project today.  The Designer Nook newsletter is only available for subscribers so if you haven’t signed up for that, please head on over to the Newton’s Nook Blog.

For my projects today, I am showcasing the Naughty or Mice stamp set, Naughty or Mice die set, Festive Forest stamp set and Festive Forest die setSweater Weather stamp set and sweater weather die set, with the Fancy Edges die set.  We all have our stash of stamps and dies and making some handmade gift boxes and tags is what I always love to do during the holidays.

For my Hexagon gift box, I started by die-cutting the box with a die from my stash.  I used liquid glue to assemble the box.  I would not recommend doing this if you are mass-producing but for the special people in your life, I think it’s wonderful to create something unique and special during the holidays.

I also die-cut another piece of the hexagon with some Bristol smooth white card stock and used my cutter-bee scissors to cut out the piece.  To create my scene, I ink-blended the background with some Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers distress oxide inks.  These are my favorite color-combo to create a blue sky.

I stamped my images on some Neenah solar white card stock and used the coordinating dies to die-cut the images.  Before adhering the focal image to the box, I stamped my sentiment using some Red Lobster ink.  Here’s a photo of my cat Phoebe supervising me and making sure I was doing it right!  She loves crafting with me during the day.

I adhered the focal image to my box.  Here’s what it looks like:

To finish my design, I added some crystal lacquer to the star and also adhered some snowflakes to adorn my scene.  Here’s a closer look:

I LOVE being able to create special gift boxes and tags with the supplies I have on hand.   I also added some cute Washi tape on the side of the box for some stability.  Doesn’t it look so unique?

For my second project, I wanted to create some Christmas tags to go with my presents this year.  I used the Fancy Edges Tag die set and the Sweater weather stamp set.  Here are my tags:

For more texture and dimension, I added some crystal lacquer and jewels to adorn the tags.  Here’s a closer look:

I hope I inspired you today to create handmade gift boxes, cards and tags for the holidays.  Thank you for stopping by my blog.  The supplies I used are listed and linked below.  Have an amazing week and happy stamping!

Joy Clair Stamps 5th Anniversary Blog Hop

Hello my crafty friends!  I am so excited to share today’s post because I have been invited to guest-design and join the Joy Clair’s 5th Anniversary Blog Hop!   I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Joy Clair for inviting me.

Hop along with us and leave a comment on each of the participating blog post.  Joy Clair will be giving away one (1) $25 gift card to TWO (2) LUCKY WINNERS!

For my cards today, I am showcasing the Christmas Penguins stamp set.

To begin, I stamped and colored my images with Spectrum Noir Harmony Quick Dry Dye Ink in Rustic Brown using my MISTI stamping tool.  I colored the images in with my alcohol markers.  I used my Brother Scan N Cut machine to die-cut the images.

I also die-cut some of the elements that I needed to create my winter scene using some dies from my stash.   Here’s my first card:

Those little penguins are super adorable! I finished my design by stamping the sentiment “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with some lobster ink by Lawn Fawn. I also added some snowflake sprinkles for some added texture. Here’s a closer look:

For my second card, I ink-blended a Bristol smooth white card stock with some distress oxide inks using my blending brushes. I wanted to create a soft-winter sky for my scene. I also die-cut the trees and the snow hill using some dies from my stash.

I colored the trees using some dye inks and mini ink blending tool. I took my time until I was satisfied with the colors. I adhered the trees and the penguins on my colored background with some foam adhesive for added dimension. Here’s my second card:

To finish my design, I stamped the sentiment on the card and used my black gel pen to add more depth to the eyes. Here’s a closer look:

I hope you like my cards today and got inspired. The supplies I used are listed and linked below in case you’re interested.

I started by stamping the background stamp by the Picket Fence Studios called All That Glitters onto my Neenah Solar Classic Crest 100 lb. card stock using my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform.   I also stamped the images from the Blah Humbunny stamp set and colored my images in with my Copic markers.  I die-cut the images using the coordinating dies.

Make the Moose Out of Life with Newton’s Nook Designs

Have you seen last week’s November release by Newton’s Nook Designs?  Did you take advantage of the Black Friday sales?  I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!  Since hubby and I are currently in Abu Dhabi, we didn’t get to roast our own turkey which made me a bit sad.  However, the most important thing is that we’re together and that’s all that matters!

For my project today, I am showcasing the Moose Mountain stamp set and coordinating dies with the Forest Scene Builder dies and the sky borders die.

I stamped my image on Neenah solar white card stock and colored him in with my Copic markers.  I used the coordinating die to cut the image.  I used the birch tree from the Forest Scene builder dies and the sky border dies to die cut my trees and the clouds.  I also cut an A2-size card base, and trimmed the front flap so that I can layer my clouds and snowbanks with vellum.   I wanted the patterned paper inside to show through but not overwhelm my design.

IMG_0186 2

To finish my design I adhered the image on my foreground and also added some berries.  Here’s what it looks like:

IMG_0207

This is an old card design of mine but I keep going back to this because it is such a great design.  When you open the card, you can see through what’s inside.

I really love how this card turned out!  Here’s another look:

I hope you like my project today.  The supplies I used are listed and linked below.  Happy crafting!

I cut an A2-size piece of Bristol smooth white card stock and inked up this background with some Tumbled Glass and Spun Sugar distress oxide inks, using my mini-ink blending tool.  I put a few drops of my Vintage Photo distress re-inker onto an acrylic block and added a few drops of water then used my watercolor brush to splatter some color onto my colored background.  I adhered this piece onto my card base.

NNDNOV18_PoinsettiaBlooms

NNDNOV18_WinterBirds

Just like I said yesterday since we are featuring a couple of products each day,  I will not have any tutorials.  If you have any questions or would like to see how I made it, please leave me a message below.

POINSETTIA BLOOMS:

NNDPointsettiaBlooms1A

At first, I colored the poinsettia images in pink but I didn’t like how it turned out so I used my red Copic markers to layer on top of the pink.  For this card, I also used my all-time favorite Pines & Holly die set and added the berries from the Winter Birds stamp set.  For my sentiment I used the Ornamental Wishes stamp set, released last month.  Here’s a little close-up:

NNDPointsettiaBlooms1B

WINTER BIRDS:

NNDWinterBirds1A

Jennifer was just so kind because she sent us this PDF document that identifies the birds and what they look like in real life.

Here’s how I colored mine:

I just LOVE cardinals!  They are so pretty and in my opinion, they are a symbol of the holidays!  For my card, I used the Pines & Holly die set once again to decorate my branch and the Festive Forest stamp set for the trees.  Here’s a little close-up:
